Sauna guide from Eric & Valery
Your first Finnish sauna: slow down and enjoy the heat
A first sauna can feel unfamiliar. You do not need to prove how long you can stay or how much heat you can take. Begin with a short, mild session, listen to your body and let the warmth set the pace. Your sauna at Romantic Wellness B&B is private, so you can find the rhythm that suits both of you.

- Begin with 5–10 minutes in the heat
- Cool down and drink water between rounds
- Towels, bathrobes and sauna scents are included
- The private sauna warms in about 20 minutes
The Finnish idea: heat, steam and no hurry
A classic Finnish sauna uses hot, dry air. A small ladle of water on the heated stones creates a brief wave of steam called löyly. That softer, fuller heat is part of the ritual, and one small ladle is enough when you are learning what you like.
The sauna belongs to your guesthouse, and no other guests use it. It takes about twenty minutes to warm. Bathrobes, towels and scents for the sauna water are ready for you, so all you need to bring is drinking water and time.
Your body in the heat
Heat widens the blood vessels near your skin, raises your pulse and makes you sweat as your body works to control its temperature. Those are normal short-term responses to heat. Sweat cools you. Research does not support vague ‘detox’ claims, and a sauna session cannot replace exercise.
You may feel calmer, looser and sleepy afterwards. Research links regular Finnish sauna bathing with possible cardiovascular and wellbeing benefits, but much of that evidence comes from observational studies. The sauna works best here as a restorative ritual.
Your first round, step by step
Drink a glass of water, shower and dry yourself before you enter. Sit on a towel and begin with five to ten minutes. Choose a lower or cooler spot if the heat feels strong. You can leave at any moment; the clock matters less than how you feel.
For löyly, mix the scent supplied for the sauna into the water and follow the instructions on the bottle. Pour one small ladle over the stones, then sit back as the steam rises. Never put undiluted scent on the heater or touch the stones.

Cool down, rest and choose
Take your time when you stand, then step into the shower. Start lukewarm or cool and choose a temperature that feels comfortable. Wrap up in a bathrobe, drink water and rest for about ten minutes.
A second short round can feel good once your breathing and pulse have settled. It is optional. First-time users should keep each round short and stay below fifteen to twenty minutes in one stretch. Finish with another shower and a longer rest.
Know when to stop or skip the sauna
Leave at once if you feel dizzy, faint, nauseous, short of breath, develop a headache or notice chest discomfort or an unusual racing heart. Cool down and ask for help if the feeling does not pass.
Skip the sauna when you are ill, dehydrated or have been drinking alcohol. Ask your doctor first if you are pregnant, have a heart or blood-pressure condition, or take medication that affects sweating, hydration or blood pressure. Never fall asleep in the sauna.
Make the evening yours
Some guests switch on the sauna after a beach walk; others save it for a quiet evening before bed. Try a scent in the water, turn down the noise outside and leave enough time to cool off without rushing.
Everything you need is in the guesthouse: the private Finnish sauna, rain shower, towels and bathrobes. If this is your first time, ask us when you arrive. We will show you the controls and water scents before leaving the house to you.
